Delaware Laws & Details
Formal Education: Graduation/education must be obtained from a formal education program that has met the standards of the Accreditation Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (ACAOM). At the time of your graduation, your school must either be accredited by ACAOM or in candidacy status for accreditation by ACAOM.
Other Eligibility Requirements: An applicant must have a current, active NCCAOM certification as a Diplomate in Oriental Medicine and the successful completion of a clean needle technique course approved by the NCCAOM is required.
Written Exam: The NCCAOM written examination.
Reciprocity/Endorsement: All applicants for reciprocal licensing must possess a current license in another state which has licensing requirements equal to or exceeding the requirements of this subchapter, and there may not be any outstanding or unresolved complaints against the applicant.
Medical doctors and osteopaths may practice acupuncture in Delaware without any specific training.
Chiropractors must be certified with a minimum of 100 or more hours of certified training beyond and in addition to any courses or training received toward the doctor of chiropractic degree.
NOTE: Look for a physician with formal training in the practice of acupuncture. Acupuncture and Oriental medicine is an art and a science that takes years to master. While any licensed physician can stick needles into you, for a positive experience and results, find an acupuncturist with experience treating a similar condition (with acupuncture) to what you have.
